After a year of searching, Dan convinced Mary that the lot of her current home had everything they needed and they could tear down her 1975 Tudor and build their dream home in its place. Mary put countless stacks of home design magazine cutouts to good use and enlisted acclaimed architect Michael Goorevich to design the Wood Screen House.

How We Did It
Armed with a loose outline, we arrived in Nashville wide-open to possibilities, which was great because Mother Nature decided to rain almost the entirety of our 3 days in the Music City! Making the decision early on to embrace the weather helped to nail down the ‘smoky mountain’ look that Eastern Tennessee is known for.
Arriving to Wood Screen later in the evening, we wasted no time and immediately setup Dan and Mary’s interview in their living room to begin collecting and shaping the story. Of course, by the time we were in Nashville, we had already done a preliminary phone interview so we knew to an extent what to expect but new items always emerge so we wanted to get a jump on it. With half of the story down to begin laying foundation before the ‘real’ Day 1, we gave ourselves wiggle room the rest of the week to work around the uncooperative weather and add bits and pieces that were needed based on what was mentioned in their interview.
Day 1 we hit the ground running to collect establishing b-roll, were pleasantly surprised to discover that wild turkeys frequented Dany and Mary’s lot and snagged Michael’s initial interview all before lunch. Having the two major sides to the story at this point, we began placing together a running list for Ben’s Host Spots to fill gaps and explain necessaries where needed - yes, all of these spots or gags are typically made up by our team on the fly and incorporated as we go, which helps to make each episode unique and tailored to the environment and circumstances.
We rocketed through the rest of the two days, parsing our time between b-roll gathering, additional walk and talk interviews and working our way down our ‘wishlist of shots’. The sun finally made a fleeting appearance on our final day, allowing us to snag the small amount of sunny shots you see spaced throughout the episode.
