Description
Completed in 2020, the design and construction process of Pier 26 actually happened over a span of 20 years. As part of the Hudson River Park Trust, the vision behind Pier 26 was to create an educational pier that provided both usable outdoor space and ecological areas for studying the Hudson River estuary. Pier 26 was also one of only a few New York projects given a construction exemption during the COVID-19 pandemic because of the importance of creating more outdoor space for Manhattan residents and was able to open on time and on budget in the middle of a global pandemic.
Objective
Part of the Design vs. Build series and sponsored by Kebony, the goal was to capture the full story and history of New York City’s restoration of their dilapidated shipping piers, highlight the Kebony used on Pier 26 and capture key testimonials for Kebony brand to be used in various other deliverables.

How We Did It
The initial portion of the episode was filmed in New York with a team of 4 over the course of 3 days. Looking to maximize our time, we chose to collect interviews on location vs. in unique locations per, doing this allowed us to collect 6+ interviews along with all of our necessary b-roll in the normal amount of time. We got lucky on weather and enjoyed sun for the vast majority of our time.
The second potion of the episode was filmed in Kalamazoo, Michigan several weeks later at the offices of Studio 431, who played a pivotal role in engineering how the pier would be placed together, along with designing the site furnishings featured throughout the pier.
